Dr. Sarah Hoffman leads pharmacoepidemiologic studies for medical product safety in the life sciences industry. Dr. Hoffman has 7 years of regulatory agency, academic, and healthcare consulting experience working with large, health-care claims databases, including the Multi-payer Claims Database, HealthCore Integrated Research Database, Mini-Sentinel, MarketScan and Medicare, and electronic health records (EHR). Methodologically, she is oriented towards causal inference critical thinking and patient centeredness, is experienced in propensity score based methods (including inverse probability weighting for non-binary exposures), and has employed machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) to process unstructured EHR data for algorithm development and validation. Her work has been published in journals including the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, International Journal of Cancer, and the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Hoffman is a member of the Society for Epidemiologic Research (SER), the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), and the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE). Dr. Hoffman earned her PhD in Epidemiology with a concentration in Pharmacoepidemiology at UNC Chapel Hill.
